Preserve Side Area State

Toggle Side Area can retain one working history per supported base editor type during the current Blender session. The setting is off by default. Outliner, Properties, and Node Editor are supported on Blender 4.5 through 5.2. On Blender 5.2, Text Editor also restores its current Text, scroll, display, and search settings. Dope Sheet, Timeline, and Action restore their mode, filters, channel selection, and supported view position. F-Curve and Drivers restore their mode, filters, display, cursor, pivot, and supported view position. NLA Editor restores its display, filter, and supported view position. Console restores its command history, scrollback, line cursors/types, and font size. Spreadsheet restores its pin flag, Mesh display/filter settings, and row filters. Video Sequence Editor restores the tested Timeline, Preview Image, or Combined Histogram display/overlay/cursor settings and visible timeline/preview view position. Movie Clip Editor restores the tested Clip, Graph, or Dope Sheet view’s direct settings and visible clip/preview view position. Image Editor and UV Editor restore a generated pinned Image, mode, cursor, pivot, overlay, UV and scope-display settings, zoom, and the visible Window position. Preferences restores the Display Filter text and Navigation region visibility. The Blender 5.2 additions were validated on the Windows build fbe6228777e7.

This Expert setting uses Blender internals and may destabilize Blender.

Dope Sheet, Timeline, and Action share one base-editor history; they are not stored as three independent histories. A saved Dope Sheet history is not replaced by opening an unmanaged Timeline before requesting the Dope Sheet again. F-Curve and Drivers likewise share one Graph Editor history. Opening an unmanaged Drivers editor does not replace a saved F-Curve history. Image Editor and UV Editor likewise share one SpaceImage history. Opening an unmanaged UV Editor does not replace a saved Image Editor history.

This does not guarantee every RNA property, active modal state, draw/runtime caches, a Main and Side Area with the same base editor type, File Browser or Asset Browser state, persistence across add-on reloads or Blender restarts, or the Blender 5.2 Text/Dope Sheet/Graph/NLA/Console/ Spreadsheet/Sequencer/Movie Clip/Image-UV/Preferences additions on Blender 4.5, 5.0, or 5.1. Sequencer Region alignment, combined-divider geometry, media/job/cache state, and the Channels Region’s raw Y View2D state are also outside the tested state. Movie Clip view-specific history, cross-view viewport state, tracking/solve/prefetch/proxy jobs, modal operations, and scope/runtime caches are also outside the tested state. Separate Image/UV histories, cross-mode viewport state, inactive Region proxies, ui_mode, Render Result or file/viewer images, paint/mask/modal/job state, computed scopes/caches, and arbitrary existing workspaces are also outside the tested state. General Sidebar-tab memory is outside this setting. The selected Preferences category, derived search results, Extensions or Add-ons work, Preferences view position, and an active file selector are not restored guarantees.
